Activities
The 4,770 m² test greenhouses are equipped with innovative technologies that reduce the use of valuable raw materials such as energy and water. The 32 compartments have completely separate controls for climate, screening, ventilation, lighting, watering, etc. and offer space for various tests and demonstrations for floriculture. The smallest compartments (36 m²) allow knowledge to be built up around new innovative techniques, while the larger compartments (116 to 230 m²) offer the opportunity to conduct practice-oriented research and demonstrations on a larger scale. In addition, a compartment will also be set up for multi-layer cultivation, focusing on energy savings by placing multiple layers of cultivation in a highly insulated, daylight-free compartment and growing under LED lighting.
The 700 m² office building is an example of integrating greenery into office complexes and densely built-up areas in Flanders, where the presence of more greenery will have a positive impact on our health and the environment. The new building has a green wall both inside and outside, creating a beautiful green effect on a very small surface area. The roof garden and the decoration of the spaces with plants also show how landscapers can transform gray spaces into a green and pleasant working environment.
At the same time, the old office building was transformed into an educational center with sufficient spaces for study days, training and other information activities. These are also available for the sector. In this way, the PCS becomes more than ever the meeting place for all those involved in the floriculture and green sector in Flanders.
